Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen is enjoying his Premier League Summer Series and the different positions that he has been asked to play by his head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Maatsen spent last season on loan at Burnley, playing as a left-back, but in Chelsea’s tour of the United States, has played further forward, including on the right.
It has led to him registering two goals against Wrexham before Chelsea’s first Summer Series match.
The Dutchman has relished the changes to his play that Pochettino has handed him and believes it could stand him in good stead, as he awaits his Premier League debut for the team that signed him in 2018.
“It has been different, but I quite like it,” the 21-year-old told Chelsea’s website. “I still find myself in positions on the pitch I know and it is good to be adaptable to help the team.
“That is the most important thing. The goals against Wrexham were a great start and gave me a little more confidence.
“But it’s always about the next step and thinking about what more I can do to help the team with my performance on the pitch.”

Maatsen is looking to feature in Chelsea’s final Summer Series match against Fulham in Maryland on a tour that he has enjoyed.
“It’s been good,” he said. “Nice weather. Good tour. A new coach. A lot of hard work.
“There are a lot of new players in the squad too, but it is a good group. We are all still getting used to each other but are enjoying it.”
