Why the players were nominated
Joshua Ajala: West Ham United’s 17-year-old striker has started the season in fine form, scoring three goals in three games. He netted twice against Southampton before hitting the winner at home to Norwich City as the Hammers maintained their 100 per cent start.
Aaron Bott: Nottingham Forest’s flawless start to the new campaign has a lot to do with their 20-year-old goalkeeper, keeping clean sheets against Wolves, Norwich and Reading.
Nathan Butler-Oyedeji: The PL2’s leading scorer with four goals, Butler-Oyedeji helped fire Arsenal to the top of the table. The 21-year-old forward opened the season with a goal against Manchester United, then netting twice at Wolves before ending the month with another against Aston Villa.
Khayon Edwards: The 20-year-old has started the new season like he ended the last. After being on the cusp of a breakthrough into Arsenal's first-team earlier this year, Edwards has started the season with two goals against Man Utd, following that with another against Aston Villa.
Jack Fletcher: Following in his father Darren’s Old Trafford footsteps, 17-year-old Jack is making a name for himself at Manchester United after an impressive month in which he scored against Stoke City before providing two assists at Blackburn Rovers.
Kyle McAdam: With three clean sheets and nine points, Nott'm Forest’s perfect start has been built on a rigid backline. The 19-year-old defender played every minute, even chipping in with an assist in the 3-0 win at Norwich.
Lewis Orford: Like his team, West Ham’s 18-year-old midfielder enjoyed a fantastic August. Although he didn’t find the net in the club’s three wins, Orford supplied two assists, one against Brighton & Hove Albion on the opening weekend before setting up team-mate Sean Moore against Southampton.
Kristian Sekularac: Fulham won both of their PL2 matches in August, and Sekularac was at the heart of it. The midfielder scored three times, finding the net twice in the 5-1 victory at Reading before getting on the scoresheet against Leicester City.
